The UBS CFA indicator, which summarizes the expectations of financial analysts and economists regarding Swiss economic development over the next six months, jumped by 37.7 points to +17.7 points in January compared to the previous month, as the major bank announced on Wednesday.

The last time there was such a jump was almost five years ago. The index is therefore back in positive territory for the first time since last July. The press release therefore speaks of a trend reversal.

While in December only a good 14% of respondents expected the Swiss economy to improve in the next six months, this proportion rose to more than a third in January. On the other hand, the proportion of those forecasting a deterioration almost halved to just under 18%.

Analysts and economists were asked about their expectations for the next six months ("improve", "no change", "worsen"). The index is calculated from the difference between the positive and negative responses as a percentage of respondents. It is calculated by UBS and the CFA Society Switzerland. According to the information provided, 34 experts took part in the January survey
