In 2025, the Swiss Food Bank saved around 8,500 tons of food from the garbage can and provided it to people living in poverty. Compared to the previous year, this represents an increase of around eleven percent.

Products from the food industry were a key driver of this development, as the Swiss food bank announced on Monday. However, new deep-freeze logistics and optimized collection and distribution routes also contributed to this.

According to the statement, Schweizer Tafel provided a total of 1.7 million shopping bags, each weighing 5 kilograms. This corresponds to a goods value of around 61.8 million Swiss francs and avoided emissions of 14,205 tons of CO2. The goods were donated to social institutions such as soup kitchens, emergency shelters, women's refuges, homeless shelters and food distribution points.

The Schweizer Tafel is a donation-funded foundation that has been active since 2001. Every day, it collects surplus but perfectly good food and non-food items from retail outlets and partners in the food industry and distributes them to institutions.

The food rescue organization "Tischlein deck dich" also recently drew a positive balance. It rescued 9,000 tons of food last year. This figure has been rising steadily for 26 years.
