Swiss hotel industry with fewer overnight stays in February

The number of overnight stays fell by 3.1 percent overall in February, as the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) announced on Monday based on an initial estimate. One reason for the decline is the absence of a calendar day due to the leap year 2024. In the previous month of January, an increase of 3.5 percent was recorded.

Domestic guests in particular spent fewer nights in local hotels in February. Overnight stays fell significantly by 6.5 percent compared to the same month last year. In contrast, guests from abroad recorded a slight increase of 1.2 percent.

The positive trend from the previous year therefore did not continue in the Swiss tourism industry in the second month of 2025. Last year, a new record was set with 42.8 million overnight stays.
