The Swiss information and communication technology (ICT) sector is starting 2026 with confidence. The ICT Index compiled by the industry association Swico rose significantly in the first quarter, signaling a noticeable improvement in sentiment.

Specifically, the index rose by 11.7 points compared to the previous quarter to 113.9 points, as Swico announced on Wednesday. The indicator thus recorded the strongest quarterly increase since mid-2021, indicating a clear countermovement after several quarters of decline.

The positive development is being driven by the continued high demand for digitalization, cloud solutions and artificial intelligence. At the same time, pressure remains high in individual segments: in the consumer electronics sector, margins and competitive pressure are weighing on development, while imaging, printing and finishing remain well below the growth threshold.

Overall, the industry is optimistic about the future despite a persistently challenging economic and geopolitical environment. The industry association emphasizes that the decisive factor for 2026 will be the productive integration of artificial intelligence into existing business processes and targeted investment in qualified specialists.

The Swico ICT Index measures the economic development of Swiss digitalization companies in the ICT, consumer electronics and imaging/printing/finishing sectors every three months. A score of over 100 points indicates a positive mood.
