The man is suspected of having been involved in cocaine trafficking in the Sopraceneri for several years. This was announced by the Ticino public prosecutor's office and the cantonal police on Wednesday. The man was arrested in the area of Adje, a town in the southwest of the Canary Island of Tenerife.

The 28-year-old initially tried to flee in his car, hitting an officer in the process. He then tried to escape over the roofs of a residential building.

The success of the investigation was due to close cooperation between the Ticino cantonal police and the Spanish Policía Nacional, the press release continued. This cooperation led to the identification of the 28-year-old's place of residence. At the same time, the Ticino and Spanish judicial authorities took the necessary steps within the framework of international legal assistance.

The anti-drug investigations have already led to the arrest of eight people in Ticino between November and December of last year, as the Ticino public prosecutor's office and the cantonal police have concluded.
