According to the foundation, one person in Switzerland becomes paraplegic every second day as a result of an accident. According to the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation, falls, sports and traffic accidents are the most common causes of accidents.
Together with its seven subsidiaries and two affiliated organizations, it forms the Swiss Paraplegic Group with over 200 employees in more than 100 professions, it added. The entire Paraplegic Group advises and supports those affected, negotiates with insurance companies and makes companies aware of the importance of employing wheelchair users. As a result, over 60 percent of people with spinal cord injuries are able to return to work after rehabilitation.
To mark its anniversary, the foundation wants to show what a membership or donation can achieve under the motto "Being involved makes a difference". To this end, there will be open days at the Paraplegic Center in Nottwil LU at the beginning of September. The foundation was set up by doctor Guido A. Zäch.
