The number of fare dodgers on Swiss public transport is steadily increasing. After one million passengers were caught without a valid ticket for the first time in 2024, this figure had already risen to 1,173,295 by 2025.

This was announced by the industry organization Alliance Swisspass at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency. It confirmed a corresponding report by the online platform Watson. These figures have been recorded in a central information system since 2019 as a result of a parliamentary resolution.
Media spokesperson Michaela Ruoss cited the increasing number of passengers and more frequent and efficient ticket inspections as reasons for the increase. Fare dodgers are therefore likely to cost the industry around 200 million francs a year. As Alliance Swisspass assumes that the proportion of passengers without a ticket has hardly increased, this estimate from 2024 remains valid.
