Reinsurer Swiss Re has significantly increased its profit in the first nine months of the year. The Group believes it is also "very well on track" to achieve its profit target for the year as a whole.

Group profit increased by 85 percent year-on-year to 4.03 billion dollars from January to September 2025, as Swiss Re announced on Friday. By contrast, the Group's insurance turnover fell by 5 percent to 32.0 billion dollars.

Following significant major losses in the first quarter, the reinsurer benefited from lower natural catastrophe losses in the second and third quarters, CEO Andreas Berger was quoted as saying in the press release. However, business in life reinsurance (L&H Re) remained below target due to a lower underwriting result.

With its result, the reinsurer exceeded analysts' forecasts for Group profit. On average, they had forecast a result of 3.88 billion dollars for the first nine months. However, the result in L&H Re fell short of expectations.

With these results, Swiss Re is well on the way to achieving its annual targets. The Group has set itself a profit target of "at least 4.4 billion dollars" for 2025.
