Switzerland is extending the sanctions against Russia. It is adopting the changes that the EU decided on last February 24 due to the war in Ukraine. The extension includes asset freezes, entry and transit bans, as well as bans on services.

The measures as part of the 16th package of sanctions against Russia come into force on Tuesday (today), as announced by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), which is responsible for sanctions. This means that over 2,400 individuals, companies and organizations are now subject to sanctions. This corresponds to the number in the EU.
According to the EAER, the expansion is a reaction "to Russia's ongoing military aggression against Ukraine and to Russia's ongoing destabilizing actions, which undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty and security of Ukraine".
