Cantonal elections AG 14 people are running for the five government seats in Aargau

A total of six women and eight men have registered with the State Chancellery for the election of the five members of the Aargau cantonal government. Seven candidates have a chance of being elected on October 20. People who have not registered are also eligible.

Four former members of the cantonal government will be standing again, as the State Chancellery announced on Friday after the registration deadline. These are Stephan Attiger (FDP), Markus Dieth (center) as well as Jean-Pierre Gallati (SVP) and Dieter Egli (SP). Alex Hürzeler (SVP) has withdrawn.

National Councillor Martina Bircher (SVP), National Councillor Beat Flach (GLP) and Grand Councillor Ruth Müri (Greens) have a chance of winning the vacant SVP seat.

Seven other candidates are outsiders and largely unknown. The Juso are running with three women: Ilayda Barth, Melanie Del Fabro and Paula Sommer. Also running are: Pius Lüscher (ig-gesundheit.ch), Thomas Rudolf Schmid (DieBürgerPartei), Theres Schöni (Lösungs-Orientierte Volks-Bewegung) and Stephan Zurfluh (Musikpartei).

All voters are eligible

All eligible voters in the canton of Aargau can cast valid votes in the first ballot. A possible second ballot will take place on November 24.

The people will also elect the 140 members of the Grand Council on October 20. A total of 1023 candidates are taking part. The candidates are standing on 97 lists from 15 parties and groups. The registration deadline for the parliamentary elections expired at the end of July.
