150,000 francs have been swindled in two scams in Basel-Stadt in the last few days. Fraudsters used the telephone to obtain account access data, as the Basel public prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday.

The unknown perpetrators claimed to be employees of a bank and, under the pretext of clarifying a hacker attack, demanded that the fraud victims hand over their bank account access data. The scammers, who speak Swiss German, put the victims under massive pressure.

The perpetrators have not yet been identified.

The Basel-Stadt public prosecutor's office points out that neither the police nor bank employees would ask anyone to provide bank access data or withdraw money from a bank or financial institution.
