On Wednesday evening shortly after 8 p.m., a driver was driving out of town on Kasernenstrasse. At the military barracks, the driver of the car in front of him braked his vehicle to a standstill in front of the pedestrian crossing there.
In order to avoid a rear-end collision with the pedestrian, he steered his car to the right past the stationary car. In doing so, he grazed the car and then hit the four members of the army on the sidewalk who were trying to cross Kasernenstrasse. The soldiers were injured in the collision.
One member of the armed forces was taken to the cantonal hospital in Graubünden with serious head injuries by the Chur ambulance service. Three members of the army went to hospital on their own. Property damage was caused to both cars. The responsible public prosecutor's office ordered a blood and urine sample to be taken from the driver of the car and proceedings were initiated accordingly.
The exact circumstances of the accident are being clarified by the Graubünden public prosecutor's office and the Chur municipal police.
