This was announced by the Federal Department of Home Affairs on Thursday. Nationwide, premiums are rising by an average of 6 percent.
In central Switzerland, the average premium in the canton of Lucerne is now the highest at CHF 326.20. In the previous year, it was highest in the canton of Schwyz. In a nationwide comparison, however, the premium is still well below the average of CHF 449, as Michaela Tschuor, Director of Health and Social Affairs of the Canton of Lucerne (center), was quoted as saying in a press release on Thursday.
Healthcare costs are expected to continue to rise due to medical advances, the ageing population and increasing demands, she added. "Great efforts are still needed from all players in the healthcare system to curb the growth in healthcare costs and thus bring about a lower increase in health insurance premiums," said Tschuor.
Development is "worrying"
In the canton of Uri, average premiums are rising by an average of 7 percent, according to the Canton of Uri's health and social services department. The population of Uri now pays an average of CHF 290.60 per month. This means that the canton still has the second lowest premiums in Switzerland.
Despite the "cost-conscious behavior" of the people of Uri, premiums are once again rising "markedly", according to the statement. According to Christian Arnold (SVP), the trend is "worrying". Around 30 percent of the population of Uri in modest financial circumstances receive premium reductions. The renewed rise in premiums therefore mainly affects the middle classes.
In the canton of Schwyz, the average premium is now CHF 325.40. In the canton of Nidwalden, the increase of 6 percent corresponds exactly to the national figure. The average premium in Nidwalden is CHF 312.60.
The premium increases in Zug and Obwalden are below average. In both cantons, the increase is 5.4 percent. The average premium in Zug has risen to CHF 310.80 and in Obwalden to CHF 303.10.
