The number of admissions to Zurich's summer swimming pools broke the million mark after all - almost a month later than last year.

The nasty weather of the past few months has left its mark on the swimming pool statistics: the one millionth admission was only reached on Tuesday, 83 days after the start of the season, as the city announced on Wednesday. Last year, it took 26 days less for the pools to record one million admissions.

The day with the most admissions to date was July 9, a Tuesday. 61,700 visitors cooled off in the lake or outdoor pool water. The two lidos Mythenquai and Tiefenbrunnen have been the most popular so far this season.

Despite the cold and wet first half of the season, the city is optimistic about the second half of the season. It is now hoping for a warm and long late summer.
