Andreas Hausheer defends third center seat in Zug government

Hausheer received 15,996 votes, while Lustenberger was elected 13,352 times, as announced by the canton of Zug on Sunday. Lustenberger wanted to win back a seat in the government for the left-wing camp. It has not been represented since the 2018 elections.

Andy Villiger (non-party), a political newcomer, came a distant third. He achieved 3174 votes.

This means that the composition of the Zug cantonal government council remains unchanged. The Center Party continues to hold three seats, while the FDP and SVP each hold two.

The 52-year-old Hausheer was previously president of the municipality of Steinhausen. He was a member of the cantonal council for 17 years until the end of 2024.

Despite the summer vacations, voter turnout was around 42.5 percent, which was higher than in the first round of voting on June 15 (38.4 percent).

Since Martin Pfister took office in the Federal Council at the beginning of April, Andreas Hostettler (FDP) has temporarily headed the Zug Health Directorate.

Following the by-election, Hausheer has been elected for the remainder of the 2023 to 2026 legislature. He will take up his new office as a member of the cantonal government on October 2.
