It was the sixth day of mobilization of public and semi-public services since the autumn and the third week in a row. A "total strike" has been announced for Thursday to protest against the 2026 draft budget. This envisages a deficit of 331 million francs and austerity measures amounting to 305 million francs.
As on the previous day, when more than 1,500 demonstrators gathered, their aim on Wednesday was to symbolically "surround" the Grand Council. The atmosphere was particularly charged between 5 and 6 p.m., when the budget debate, which had started in the morning and lasted until late in the evening, took a break, as a reporter from the Keystone-SDA news agency reported.
The crowd whistled and booed the parliamentarians who remained in the building. Only a few left-wing MPs came out, waving to the demonstrators or standing in the forecourt as a sign of solidarity.

The demonstrators chanted and sang slogans such as "De l'argent, il y en a, dans les caisses de l'Etat" (There is enough money in the state coffers) or "Conseil d'Etat, démission" ("Council of State, resign") and held up numerous banners and signs.
The trade unions laid down a huge white cardboard cube in front of the entrance to the Grand Council, symbolizing the tax gift of the tax shield for very rich people. The unions had invited participants to stay until 10pm.
In the early evening, a group from the public service union (VPOD Vaud) officially handed over an open letter to the State Chancellery to the State Councillor and Nuria Gorrite, with over a thousand signatures from professionals and parents. In it, they "strongly oppose the cuts that temporarily reduce the canton's contribution to the Foundation for the Day Care of Children (FAJE)".
