2718 kindergarten children and 2978 primary school pupils started their first day of school in the Basel region on Monday. The elementary school in the Basel region currently have a total of 36,000 pupils.

At secondary level, 145 first classes with 2883 pupils have been formed, according to the Department of Education. At middle school level, there were 65 first classes with 1,375 pupils.
The total number of children in kindergartens in Basel decreased by 150 to 5504. This means that there were eleven fewer kindergarten classes than in the previous year. At elementary school, the increase amounted to 169 schoolchildren. This resulted in the formation of an additional 14 classes, according to statistics from the Department of Education.
In the vocational schools, 2651 new students started their training. According to an initial projection by the Directorate of Education, this corresponds to an increase of 132 learners compared to the previous year.
