On Monday, the Cantonal Council of Appenzell Ausserrhoden approved an additional part-time judgeship at the High Court. This increases the number of part-time judges there to 17. A motion by the SVP to approve the post only for a limited period until 2028 failed.

The second-instance higher court in Ausserrhoden currently has two full-time judges and 16 part-time judges. The cantonal council approved the application for an additional part-time judge without a dissenting vote.

The increase in the number of posts was undisputed in the Council due to the high workload caused by the large number of cases and challenging projects for the digitalization of the judiciary.

The SVP parliamentary group's motion to approve the post for a limited period until the end of the legislative period was defeated by 34 votes against and 24 votes in favor.
