Government AR Ausserrhoden cantonal councillor Alfred Stricker announces his resignation

Appenzell Ausserrhoden cantonal councillor Alfred Stricker has announced his resignation at the end of May 2025. Stricker has headed the Department of Education and Culture for almost ten years. He will reach retirement age next year, as the canton announced in a press release on Thursday.

Alfred Stricker (independent) was elected to the cantonal government in 2015. From 2019 to 2021, he chaired the cantonal government as Landammann.

Prior to his time in government, Stricker was a cantonal councillor for eight years. From 1996 to 2007, he was a municipal councillor in Stein AR.

The by-election will take place on February 9, 2025, with a possible second ballot scheduled for March 16, 2025.
