The Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) approved this release at the end of November, said Carmelia Maissen (center), the member of the Graubünden cantonal government responsible, on Wednesday morning in the Grand Council in Chur.
The hunting authorities will now begin the trapping campaign in the Jura from February 2026. The relocation will be accompanied by the Kora Foundation and the Institute for Fish and Wildlife Health (Fiwi). The new lynxes should also strengthen genetic diversity in Graubünden.
While hunting wolves in November 2024, a cantonal gamekeeper mistook wolves for a male lynx and two cubs. He was subsequently charged and sentenced to a four-figure fine.
