The city of Lucerne is to provide financial support for the installation of "balcony power plants". In principle, the city council supports a request from the Green parliamentary group of the city council.

The "balcony power plants" are small systems with a maximum of two solar panels and a maximum output of 600 watts. They are connected to the power grid via a socket. Such systems are primarily suitable for tenants.

As the city council writes in its response to the Greens' postulate published on Wednesday, such small systems can also make a contribution to electricity production, albeit a modest one. On the positive side, it emphasizes that they make solar energy more visible in the cityscape and could help to raise awareness.

The postulate calls for the municipal energy fund to cover 30 percent of the acquisition costs for a "balcony power plant", up to a maximum of CHF 500. The city council intends to comply with this demand. However, it emphasizes that it is up to the administration of the energy fund to determine the actual funding conditions.

The City Council therefore only wants to accept the postulate in part.
