Northern Switzerland Basel is heading for a new record in tourism

In the first half of 2024, Basel hotels registered 676,159 overnight stays. This is the highest figure ever for a first half-year, as Basel Tourism announced on Tuesday.

In June, 146,019 overnight stays were recorded in Basel's hotels, 6841 or 4.9% more than in May. Compared to June of the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 2.4 percent.

The Art Basel art fair contributed significantly to this result, according to the statement. During the Art Week from June 10 to 16, net room occupancy averaged 78.9 percent.

The European Fencing Championships from June 18 to 23 ensured a good occupancy rate. During these days, net room occupancy averaged 76%.

From 25 to 27 June, around 3,000 conference guests at Future Labs Live in the Congress Center Basel brought additional overnight stays to Basel hotels; room occupancy averaged 81% during the congress days.

All in all, the average room occupancy rate in June was 70.1 percent. This was the best figure so far this year. In the first half of the year, the average occupancy rate was 53.8%. It was lowest in January at just under 43 percent.
