The new health center in Abidjan/Yopougon in Côte d'Ivoire.

With the participation of Basel-Stadt, a new health center was opened on Friday in the Yopougon district of the Ivorian metropolis of Abidjan. The canton has maintained a partnership with Yopougon since 2021 in the spirit of social commitment, as the Basel Department of Presidential Affairs announced on Monday.
The canton of Basel-Stadt contributed CHF 260,000 and the city of Yopougon/Abidjan the equivalent of around CHF 405,000 to the construction and commissioning of the health center. According to the press release, the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d'Ivoire, the Ivorian partner institution of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, was mandated to manage the project.
The new health center comprises general medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics and dentistry services and includes a pharmacy and a laboratory. A gradual start of operations is planned.
In addition to the health center, other joint projects have been implemented, such as the construction of a school and canteen in the Adiopodoumé district, performances of the musical theater project "Yopougon-Ring" by Theater Basel and workshops by the Swisspeace Peace Foundation to strengthen responsible corporate governance in Abidjan.
