Construction Basel traffic garden closes for renovation work
From November 4, the Verkehrsgarten on Wasgenring in Basel, which is popular with families, will close its doors. This is due to extensive renovation work. The new Verkehrsgarten is due to reopen in summer 2025.

The renovation work will begin on September 30, as announced by the Department of Construction and Transport on Thursday. Police traffic training will continue until November 4. Until then, the traffic garden will also be partially open for private use.
In November 2022, the Grand Council approved almost CHF 2.8 million for the renovation and upgrading of the traffic garden. According to the press release, almost the entire amount can be financed from the value-added tax fund.
The surfacing, kerbs and other infrastructure will be replaced. Among other things, high streetcar stop edges, a sidewalk crossing and an indirect bicycle turning facility will also be installed. In the facility, which was opened in the 1960s, children can learn the rules of the road in a protected environment.
