"We are grateful that we have been spared any major damage so far. Thanks to the good weather in the canton of Bern, we can draw a positive balance for the first half of the year", Stefan Dürig, CEO of Gebäudeversicherung Bern (GVB), was quoted as saying in a press release on Tuesday.
By the end of June, GVB had recorded a total of 4,499 claims and a loss amount of 39 million francs. In the first half of 2023, this compares to 8166 reports. At that time, however, the loss amount was only slightly higher at 39.3 million francs.
In the current year, fires led to building damage amounting to CHF 18.8 million, while natural hazards such as storms caused damage of CHF 20.2 million. In terms of natural hazards, hail in particular kept the GVB on its toes.
There was also good weather on the financial markets, from which GVB also benefited, according to a press release on Tuesday. GVB will only publish more precise financial figures in its annual financial statements.
