The 48-year-old has been a member of the National Council for the GLP since December 2019. In a communiqué, the GLP Canton of Bern highlighted her "formative role in the Commission for Social Security and Health and her commitment to security policy issues".

Mettler will be succeeded by Fabienne Stämpfli on 4 Tuesday. The 32-year-old environmental engineer will stand up for the concerns of the "young population" in the National Council, it added.

The spring session starts in Bern next Monday.
