Brunni-Bahnen Engelberg once again enjoyed a good summer half-year in the 2023/24 financial year. Thanks to this, the losses in winter could be compensated for.

The transport facilities and gastronomy generated a turnover of CHF 7.6 million in the financial year that ended in April. In the 2022/23 financial year, the company generated CHF 7.0 million.

Operating profit EBITDA remained virtually unchanged at around CHF 1.5 million. A slight increase in personnel costs and higher energy prices had a negative impact on the result, Brunni-Bahnen Engelberg announced on Tuesday. At CHF 136,000, the profit was in line with the previous year.

A total of 237,000 people visited the Brunni area and Klostermatte in the 2023/24 financial year. This corresponds to an increase of 3 percent, the company announced. As in 2022/23, summer operations were also more successful than winter operations in the last financial year.

According to Brunni-Bahnen, the summer half-year saw 145,000 first-time admissions, the highest figure in the company's 75-year history. The reasons cited in the press release for the increase were "the sun-drenched weekends" and the groups and schools that came to the Brunni in September, which is usually a mixed month.

Around 92,000 admissions were registered in winter 2023/24, which corresponds to a decrease of 3.7 percent. The winter season got off to a promising start in December with "perfect snow conditions", according to Brunni-Bahnen. But then the cold temperatures failed to materialize and operations on the Klostermatte had to close in the middle of the peak season.
