The monthly family allowances in the canton of Bern will rise from the current CHF 230 to CHF 250 per month from the beginning of 2025. Education allowances will rise from CHF 290 to CHF 310. The canton of Bern is thus adjusting the contributions in line with inflation.

The adjustment amounts to a total of CHF 50 million, as announced by the Cantonal Directorate of Home Affairs and Justice on Thursday. The funds for the increase will be provided by employers, self-employed persons, municipalities and the canton.

The 50 or so family compensation funds licensed in the canton of Bern are responsible for implementing the increase.

The Federal Council adopted the corresponding amendment to the Family Allowances Ordinance at the end of August. As a result, family allowances in the canton of Berne will also be adjusted.

Cantonal legislation in Berne stipulates that child and education allowances amount to 115% of the allowances set by the Confederation. The figures are rounded to the nearest five francs.
