The canton of Bern is supporting the expansion of the O'Bloc bouldering and climbing hall in Ostermundigen with CHF 1.05 million from the sports fund. The Grand Council unanimously approved the loan on Wednesday.

The new hall was opened at the end of August. It is adjacent to the existing hall. According to the cantonal safety directorate, the new building is intended to meet "the great demand for climbing facilities".

"In terms of variety, safety and climbing experience, the location should offer the best possible climbing, sport and adventure venue for a broad target audience from young to old, from beginners to competitive athletes, while also contributing to a healthy society for all ages," it continued.

According to its own information, the O'Bloc is one of the largest climbing gyms in Switzerland with over 50 employees.
