The canton of Bern wants to support the municipality of Kandersteg financially with hazard management at "Spitze Stei". The cantonal government is applying to the cantonal parliament for an annual contribution of 759,000 francs. The mountain flank of the "Spitze Stei" has been unstable for years.

There have already been various collapses on the "Spitze Stei" and large masses of rock are still moving. Rockfalls can be dangerous for people, buildings and infrastructure. The situation requires various protective measures. Large shoring measures have already been implemented along the nearby Oeschibach stream. The situation on site must be constantly monitored.

This incurs high costs for the municipality, as the cantonal Department of Economic Affairs, Energy and the Environment announced on Thursday.
