The two occupants of a car that collided with a tree in Rheinau on Sunday night were seriously injured. For unknown reasons, the car with the 30-year-old driver and the 29-year-old co-driver had left the road in a wooded area and crossed the oncoming lane.

The two occupants had to be freed from the wrecked car by the fire department, according to the Zurich cantonal police. The ambulance service then took both men to hospital. Marthalerstrasse was closed for around three and a half hours after the accident.
The cause of the accident was initially unclear. The car was traveling from Ellikon am Rhein in the direction of Marthalen shortly after 01:00. The public prosecutor's office ordered a blood and urine sample to be taken from the driver.
