The cause of the explosion in a bar in Crans-Montana VS on New Year's Eve, which claimed several lives, is still unknown. In a communiqué, the Valais cantonal police spoke of a "serious incident".

There was also no information yet about the number of victims. More than 100 people were present in the restaurant at the time of the drama, the police wrote. The police told the Keystone-SDA news agency that several people were dead and several injured. The newspaper "Le Nouvelliste" reported dozens of dead and 100 injured on its website.
Police, fire departments and several helicopters were deployed. The operation is continuing, it added. The entire sector has been cordoned off. A no-fly zone was imposed over Crans-Montana. A helpline has been set up for families on 084 811 21 17.
