The 39-year-old centrist politician is on the verge of becoming a member of the Valais cantonal government. According to the current count, she has more than an absolute majority and would be the only one of the six candidates already elected.

After 66 of 122 municipalities have been counted, Franziska Biner from the center is in the lead with (14,420 votes), ahead of the incumbent centrist state councillor Christophe Darbellay (11,208 votes). So far, Biner is the only one to have received more than the absolute majority of 11,671 votes and would therefore already be elected.

The incumbent state councillors Franz Ruppen of the SVP and Mathias Reynard of the SP are in third and fourth place with 10,654 and 7,822 votes respectively.

The FDP candidate, Stéphane Ganzer, came fifth (5817 votes). The Green Party candidate Emmanuel Revaz is in sixth place (3313 votes).

Voter turnout is currently around 53 percent.
