Last weekend, the police corps of Central Switzerland stopped eleven drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs during traffic checks on the outward and return journeys to the Zurich Street Parade. A total of 187 vehicles and 375 people were checked.

Among them, 13 people were carrying narcotics, as reported by the Schwyz cantonal police on Monday. During the checks, two vehicles were found to be in an unsafe operating condition and one violation of the Weapons Act.

A total of 18 charges were issued for violating the Road Traffic Act and 28 administrative fines, according to the statement. The persons charged will have to answer to the public prosecutor's office.

The checks were carried out by the police forces of the cantons of Obwalden, Nidwalden, Lucerne, Zug and Schwyz as part of the "Focus 2024" campaign. The campaign included checks on road traffic in the cantons as well as checks on rail traffic in the canton of Schwyz.
