Christian Glur from Aargau is the new SVP National Councillor. He took the oath of office in the parliamentary chamber on Monday. He succeeds Martina Bircher, who was elected to the Aargau cantonal government in October.

Glur from Glashütten was the first substitute on the SVP list for the National Council elections in the fall of 2023. His father Walter Glur was already a member of the National Council from 1999 to 2011. Christian Glur is 49 years old and a master farmer. He was a member of the Aargau cantonal parliament for 15 years.

40-year-old Martina Bircher had been a member of the National Council since 2019. She stepped down because she was elected to the Aargau cantonal council on October 20. She achieved national prominence as head of social affairs and deputy mayor of the municipality of Aarburg.
