Bern's city government has approved service contracts for open work with children and young people over the next two years. To this end, it is applying to the City Council for commitment credits amounting to around five million francs per year.

The umbrella organization for open work with children in the city of Bern (Dok) is to receive around CHF 2.5 million per year, as the municipal council announced on Monday.

The service contract will be extended to include the Bienzgut children's club in Kleefeld and the "Spielinsel" play area in Aaregg. Over the next two years, Dok will also focus on the Wankdorf and Bethlehem-Ost districts, according to the press release.

According to the application, the association for open youth work in the city of Bern (Toj) will receive around CHF 2.4 million per year. Toj provides services for teenagers and young adults.

The so-called Wankdorf educational landscape, an offer for increased cooperation between school and extracurricular stakeholders, will be newly included in this service contract. The Bern West youth center in Brünnengut will also open in mid-2026, which will require additional resources.
