Municipal vote SOCity of Solothurn says yes to expansion of the south station

The voters of the city of Solothurn have clearly approved the expansion of Solothurn South station. They approved a loan of 39.6 million Swiss francs. The new underpass will connect the districts on both sides of the tracks more directly and shorten the transfer routes to the Bern-Solothurn regional transport system.

Voters approved the proposal with a 55.6% share of votes in favor (yes: 2918 votes, no: 2120 votes, 204 blank votes). The turnout was 46.7 percent, as reported by the city chancellery on Sunday.
After deducting contributions from the federal government's agglomeration program and the Federal Office of Transport, the city is contributing 25.2 million to the underpass for bicycles and pedestrians, the redesign of the station square and the new south bicycle station.
CHF 161.3 million has been budgeted for the overall project to increase the capacity of Bern-Solothurn Regional Transport (RBS). Among other things, the RBS platforms will be extended by 60 meters to allow trains to run.
