The Bundesplatz and Bundesgasse will become an event mile on August 1. There will be food, drink, musical entertainment and a family program. The Bundeshaus and the cathedral can also be visited.

A 24-metre-long charcoal barbecue will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight, with a variety of food on offer. This was announced by the Idéebern association on Friday.

Young regional talent will be performing on a stage on the Bundesplatz, the press release added. The "Bärner Chaschperli Gutsche" - a puppet theater on wheels - and the Bernese games workshop are part of the family program. Children can have their faces painted and make lanterns. The Procap lantern parade starts at 7 pm, accompanied by the Bern Metal Orchestra.

The Federal Palace and the cathedral are open to the public on Swiss National Day. In the Federal Palace, Eva Herzog (SP), President of the Council of States, and Eric Nussbaumer (SP), President of the National Council, will host a public discussion in the National Council chamber under the direction of Philipp Burkhardt, head of the SRF Federal Parliament editorial team.

Bern Minster offers a yodeling concert at lunchtime and a variety of themed tours. Coffee and cake will be served in the tower bistro.

Bern Welcome offers free guided tours of the city.
