A ban on fireworks, as called for by a national popular initiative, goes too far for the National Council committee responsible. However, it wants to counter the popular initiative with an indirect counter-proposal aimed at minimizing harmful effects at the legislative level.

By 14 votes to 11, the Science, Education and Culture Committee of the National Council (WBK-N) decided to draw up an indirect counter-proposal to the fireworks initiative, as reported by the parliamentary services on Friday. The next step is for the sister committee of the Council of States to give its opinion.
The Federal Council rejects the popular initiative "For a restriction on fireworks (fireworks initiative)" without a counter-proposal, arguing that the cantons and municipalities already have the legal basis to restrict fireworks. However, the WBK-N would like to tighten the Explosives Act and, if necessary, other decrees in order to accommodate the initiators.
