The federal government is to provide one hundred million francs over four years to support daycare centers. In addition to a childcare allowance for working parents, Parliament wants to create new childcare places with so-called program agreements.

On Tuesday, the National Council resolved the final differences in the bill on future daycare funding. The matter is now ready for the final vote at the end of the winter session.

The Federal Act on Support for Supplementary Family Childcare is the indirect counter-proposal to the popular initiative "For good and affordable supplementary family childcare for all (childcare initiative)". The core of the counter-proposal is the creation of a childcare allowance for parents of daycare children, which is financed by contributions from employers, employees and the cantons.
