The two chambers of the Swiss parliament have come closer together in the settlement of differences on the bill for the creation of a thermal power reserve. On Monday, the upper chamber removed the promotion of CHP plants from the Electricity Supply Act in line with the Council of States.

However, this was by a very narrow margin - 97 votes to 94 with one abstention - and against a corresponding minority motion by Nicolo Paganini (center/SG), who wanted to anchor the promotion of these combined heat and power plants in the law.

The National Council also approached the Council of States when it came to determining the compensation for large electricity consumers that are to be disconnected from the grid in the event of a shortage. The upper chamber tacitly voted in favor of determining the willingness to participate in the mechanism with tenders.

In addition, the National Council also wants to lower the threshold for cost reimbursement for such electricity-intensive companies. The National Council rejected all minority motions.
