The cantonal civil engineering office is extending the cycle lane between the Oberhofen lido and the Lauitor traffic circle in Thun so that bicycle traffic on the right bank of Lake Thun can flow more smoothly at rush hour. The additional cycle lanes will be installed towards the city center.

The immediate measure is the result of a motion referred by the Grand Council, as announced by the cantonal Department of Construction and Transport on Monday. The motion demands that the canton improve the situation for bicycle traffic between Thun and Oberhofen.

The cycle lanes are marked out at night so that road traffic can travel normally during the day. The stretch on the right bank of Lake Thun in the direction of Thun is a bottleneck. There are frequent traffic jams. The canton and municipalities have been looking for solutions to the traffic problem for years.
