On Friday afternoon, a car collided with itself in Altendorf SZ after an overtaking maneuver. According to the Schwyz cantonal police, at 5.10 p.m. a driver started an overtaking maneuver on Zürcherstrasse in the direction of Pfäffikon, in the Lidwil area, and lost control of the vehicle.
The car skidded and collided with a crash barrier. The vehicle was lifted off the ground and thrown against a barn facade. After the collision, the car caught fire.
The fire department managed to extinguish the fire and free the driver from the vehicle. The front passenger and the passenger were able to get out of the vehicle with the help of third parties before the emergency services arrived.
Driver suffers life-threatening injuries
The 39-year-old driver sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident. Rega flew the injured man to a hospital outside the canton. The 22-year-old co-driver was seriously injured in the accident, while the 29-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries. Both people were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals.
The Schwyz cantonal police, under the direction of the public prosecutor's office of the canton of Schwyz, have launched an investigation to clarify the exact cause of the accident.
