An intoxicated driver caused a collision in the tunnel in Eich LU on the A2 southbound on Wednesday night and later collided with kerbstones. The 58-year-old driver was stopped by the police at the Neuenkirch service area.

In the Eich tunnel, the driver crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with an oncoming car, Lucerne police reported on Wednesday. He drove on without stopping. At the Neuenkirch service area, the driver collided with kerbstones at the highway exit and his car was severely damaged, it was reported. The police were able to stop and check the driver.

A breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of the equivalent of 1.16 per mille. According to the statement, the damage amounts to around 20,000 Swiss francs.
