No investigations should be able to be carried out against the Solothurn FDP National Councillor Simon Michel. The responsible National Council committee is protecting the parliamentarian's immunity.

The Solothurn public prosecutor's office had requested that Michel's immunity be lifted. A criminal complaint had been filed against the 48-year-old for defamation offenses.

The immunity committee of the National Council came to the conclusion by 8 votes to 0 with 1 abstention that this request should be rejected, as the parliamentary services announced on Monday. The parliamentarian's immunity is not to be waived for the investigations.

According to the press release, the complainant alleged that Michel had repeatedly referred to him as a "troll" paid for by an internationally renowned investment company in comments on posts and Linkedin contributions on the EU treaties. These comments had damaged his public reputation.

Now the Council of States committee has to decide.
