The federal government's contributions to education and research for the next four years have been finalized. Overall, Parliament approved slightly more funding than the Federal Council had requested.

The Federal Council wanted to release a total of CHF 29.2 billion with the ERI Dispatch. This would mean annual growth of 1.6 percent, not adjusted for inflation. According to the government, more was not possible for financial reasons. It had cut the growth initially requested due to tight finances.

The National Council would have wanted 1.7 percent more funding and requested adjustments that would have resulted in a net increase of around 152 million francs. The Council of States was more cautious. On Thursday, the Councillors decided on a net increase of around 59 million francs. The bill is now signed and sealed.
