Not all property purchases by people from abroad are reported to the cantonal licensing authorities, the Federal Council wrote in its response to the motion by Benoît Gaillard (SP/VD).
The latter had submitted the motion in March after connections between the former American financier's network and Switzerland had become known in the preceding months.
At the time, the US authorities had published around 3.5 million pages of documents relating to the sex offender. According to several media reports, the millionaire is said to have financed the studies of several young women in Switzerland and maintained contacts with well-known personalities from the world of finance.
The multimillionaire Epstein had run an abuse ring for years, to which numerous young women and minors fell victim. Many influential people are said to have been among his clients.
Almost 20 years ago, the allegations were brought to court and Epstein pleaded guilty to certain charges. Years later, the case was reopened and the multimillionaire was arrested again. Before a possible further verdict could be reached, Epstein died in his prison cell on August 10, 2019 at the age of 66.
