Federal employees will only receive a small cost-of-living adjustment in the coming year. This was decided by Parliament during the budget debate.
The budget therefore includes CHF 6.8 million for the cost-of-living adjustment. The Council of States tacitly agreed with the National Council on Wednesday. Initially, the small chamber had not wanted to grant the staff of the Federal Administration any cost-of-living adjustment at all.
The Federal Council had budgeted a cost-of-living adjustment of 0.5 percent and allocated almost CHF 34 million for this purpose. This means that CHF 27.2 million will be saved on this point at the expense of staff.
The Council of States also wants to allocate more money than the National Council to the Office for Gender Equality to combat domestic violence and violence against women. According to Eva Herzog (SP/BS), 200,000 people had signed an appeal to the members of the Council to make this money available.
