A fire broke out in an apartment building on Mülhauserstrasse in Basel on Thursday evening. Two people had to be taken to hospital due to suspected smoke inhalation, as reported by the Basel public prosecutor's office on Friday.

The fire broke out shortly before 9 p.m. in a seating area of a ground-floor apartment. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire quickly, according to the statement.

It is not yet clear why the fire broke out. According to the press release, the apartment is damaged due to the heavy smoke and is currently no longer habitable.
