After an illegal firecracker explosion at a school in Chur last week, the Graubünden authorities have identified a senior school pupil. He is said to have set off a prohibited firework in the Giacometti school building. Two pupils suffered burn injuries as a result.

The investigations by the juvenile prosecutor's office and the Graubünden cantonal police have become more conclusive and consequently revealed that the so-called ground burner was set off by a high school student, the Graubünden cantonal police wrote on Monday. The background to the crime is still being investigated.

The pupil set off the illegal firecracker in the stairwell after the morning break last Wednesday. In addition to the minor burn injuries suffered by the two schoolgirls, the detonation also affected the hearing of 44 other schoolchildren.

Rescue teams initially provided the children with emergency medical care before they were treated in the cantonal hospital and in nearby medical practices. The school psychology service was also deployed.
